Frequently Asked Questions

Are helmets required?

Yes helmets are required for this event! Your safety is our number one priority, and we have First Responders and members of the SIVFD available throughout the course to keep you safe! We also have event insurance, and all participants are required to sign a liability waiver to participate.

Do I need to stay on Savary overnight?

Nope! Many participants come on the 8AM water taxi from Lund, and leave at 1:30PM.

What kind of bike should I use?

We have seen success with all sorts of bikes, ranging from road bikes to mountain bikes and hybrids. Previously this was more of a challenging question because the roads on Savary were not always well maintained and  there was a short trail portion of the bike ride. However, in 2022 the road was in excellent condition, even for a road bike, and we have now removed the trail portion so the entire ride is on the road. If you haven't been to Savary before, just be aware that the road is made of packed sand/gravel so there is a risk of potholes and sand traps. You are welcome to contact us the week before the race to check the road conditions to decide what kind of bike to bring. There are a few hills so if you are going to use a fixed speed bike, just be prepared. And know that there is absolutely no judgement for walking your bike up hills in this fun triathlon.

Unfortunately our event insurance does not permit the use of electric bikes on the race course.

I don't have a team but I don't think I can do a full triathlon by myself!

Firstly, this is a fun triathlon so this is your opportunity to give it a try if it's something you'd like to do! The largest barrier is often the swim, and in this race you can walk/run in the water instead of swim (or do a mix of walking and swimming). You can also walk your bike up hills, walk/jog instead of run, push a wheelbarrow full of margaritas (just kidding, but that really did happen in the first year!). We will be ready to cheer for you when you come to the finish line.

Or we can help you make a team! Just reach out and we'll help you out.
