Race Course:
Swim-Bike-Run

This race course takes you the whole distance of the beautiful island. The swim and run portions of the race course are the same as a sprint distance triathlon, while the bike is half the distance of a sprint. Helmets are required for the bike, and wetsuits are optional for the swim. There are modified, shorter routes for youth under age 15. We start at the main wharf, and end at the main firehall, mid-island.

Triathlon BC Age-Distance Rules

New since 2022:

The race is now sanctioned by Triathlon BC, who have rules around the maximum distances that youth under age 16 are allowed to race in order to ensure a constant progression in the sport in accordance with their Long Term Athlete Development Model.

  • Individual competitors (i.e. people completing the entire race alone) must be at least 10 years old as of 31 Dec in the year of the race. Youth under 10 can still compete in relay teams, see info below the maps.

  • There are three designated progressively shorter race courses for individual competitors between 10-15.

  • We prefer that a parent/adult accompanies an individual competitor aged 10-11, and welcome also welcome parent accompaniment for the 12-15 year-olds

Youth under age 9 on relay teams

Individuals aged 9 and under can only participate in relay teams. These youth must follow the same distance limits as individual competitors. Please speak with a race organizer to plan out your relay route if you have someone under 9 on your team. One option is to split up legs of the race between multiple participants (e.g. one person does the first half of the bike and a second person does the second half). You can read in depth about the full details of the age distance restrictions here : https://www.tribc.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/2017-Triathlon-BC-Youth-Rules.pdf

Modifications

As a "Fun" triathlon, it is a community-focused event, open to participants of all ages and abilities. This triathlon is absolutely not just for athletes, so we offer several official modifications to increase inclusivity:

  • Relay teams: Assemble a team of 2+ individuals to complete the event as a relay!

  • Recreational Category: Swimming not for you? In the Recreational Category, you get to run waist-deep in the water!

Beyond these options we encourage you to consider any other creative modifications that will help make participation in this event fun and inclusive for you! Contact us if you want to discuss any ideas, we will try our best to make it happen for you.
